Definitely no qualms about calling this collection an extensive royal family outing, one can count on the likes of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe and Crown Princess Mary, as well as Spanish Princess Letizia, who were all previously seen in the luscious drapes of velvet, to fall in love with Giorgio Armani‘s latest creations for the autumn winter season.

Wrapping up six days of catwalk shows at Milan Fashion week, the designer, famed for his penchant for reworking menswear for the modern woman, transformed the stage into a expressive and vibrant sea of emerald green, turquoise, electric blue, amethyst purple and ruby reds. The occasional sightings of pictorial jacquards also echo the essence of royal medieval Gothic glass paintings.

This new adaptation of the Armani style is, by all means, free, aware, and subtly irreverent. The juxtaposition of rich velvet and soft mohair against the reflective surfaces of the quilted satin on the suit-inspired silhouettes definitely heralds a new meaning to the era whereby dressing up in itself can indeed be a poetic, personal gesture.
